8 Ideas for Thriving in Your 30’s

Your 30’s are a critical time. There’s still time to make some big changes in your life without it being exceedingly difficult. Nine times out of 10, physically, you’re probably still in pretty good shape. Financially, you still have room to make adjustments and have an excellent retirement.

This is a vital time and can have an enormous impact on the remainder of your life. Don’t use this time to coast through because now is when you start to build the foundation for your future self. The sooner you start to plan and take action, the easier it will be to reach milestones, when completing your life goals.

Maximize your 30’s with these tips:

1. You still have time for a new job or major career change. If you’ve been wanted switch to a dissimilar career, now is the time to plan your escape. You can always choose a different career path or go back to school. However, if you’re being practical, it’s more feasible to do so in your 30’s than in your 40’s.

2. You still have time to make a major life change. Relationship wise, you can end and start a new one or even get married if you’re ready to take the leap. If you’re considering having children, now’s a good time to get serious about making that happen. You want to be able to still move and shake when your children are in their 20’s.

  • Waiting only delays the time you get to spend with them as they get into their adult lives. Give yourself time to be there for their milestones in life. You don’t want on miss out on weddings, grandchildren, and career successes.

3. Keep working out. The body’s metabolism starts to slow down in one’s 30’s. It might be in the early or late 30’s, but there’s no question that the body starts to change. There are still people who keep their physique in their 30’s, but most of us have to work at it.

  • When your body changes, it’s vital to make a few modifications to your level of activity as well as your diet. It’s more challenging to get back to the weight you use to be when you were younger. Plus, it will cause long term health issues if you let your weight get out of hand.

4. Keep in contact with your friends. Many individuals become settled in their life during their 30’s. It’s essential to stay in touch with your close friends, so you have a support system when you need one. You don’t have to live down the block to keep the bond intact. Just reach out and check in every so often.

  • There are fewer opportunities to meet new people, outside of work. You’ll discover that after a particular age, people are far less interested in making new friends. It’s possible but can be challenging to some.

5. Start doing things on your bucket list. While you’re still adventurous and have good hips, it’s time to check off the physically challenged items. If skydiving, mountain climbing, triathlons, and snowboarding are on your list, knock them out now.  Who knows how long you have before your interests or physical body will fade and those adventures, remain unlived.

6. Set some long-term goals. Decide how you want to live 10-20 years from now. This is the time to begin laying the framework for the lifestyle you want in the future. You probably see life differently than you did in your 20’s. Change how you carry yourself and adjust your goals, to accommodate said modifications for your future. When you start living life as your future self, right now, it’s easier to become the person you want to be moving forward.

7. Appreciate time spent with your children. It’s important to understand that they won’t be around forever. They form a preconceived notion about who you are as children. You don’t get a second chance at redoing their childhood, so spend time connecting with them. Explain your past life, so they understand who you are as a person, now that they can view you through adult eyes.

As a child, they may have seen you come in and grab a drink after work, so they think you’re an alcoholic. Now that they are adults, you can explain that it was for two weeks because you were out of work, stressing over how to pay bills, and you stopped when you got a new job.

8. Keep or start saving or investing. You still have time to save up a million dollars. Unless you have a significant income, that statement won’t be true for long. Avoid taking on unnecessary debt and continue to save money. It may be tempting spend what you have on trips and a good time, but think about what happens when the money runs out and you don’t have a nest egg or savings you can rely on. You don’t really want to be working for minimum wage at 75. Make it easy on yourself by saving now, so you’ll comfortable later. Create your own retirement fund because living off of $550 a month from social security isn’t going to be the way to go.

Are you ready to take full advantage of your 30’s? What will you do to make sure you live a life of no regrets? Will you return to college or change jobs? Will you ultimately jump out the plane and skydive to great adventures? Will you start saving for your retirement dream home by the beach? Or will you keep living like no tomorrow? Always plan ahead and put yourself in a position to win. It’s better to sacrifice a little now with the intent to live a comfortable life later.
