Many of us can use a boost of positive reassurance when we think about our opinions of ourselves. An effective way to get a quick hit of dopamine is with the use of affirmations. They are a reliable source to increase your confidence.
It can take hundreds of repetitions to change the current level of self-confidence. They key is to constantly use positive affirmations on a daily basis until you have them embedded in your soul.
Harness the power of affirmations by using this process to improve your self-confidence:
1. Figure out which areas in your self-confidence are weak. Hone-in on the areas that need the most improvement. Look at the aspects of your life that give you a negative feeling. It can be anything related to your relationships, your body, your career, or your personality.
2. Make a list of affirmations that address the areas that need the most improvement. Let’s say your self-confidence about your job is not up to par. Give yourself grace and create powerful affirmations even if they seem a bit over the top.
For example:
I am the most qualified person on my team.
I contribute in a major way when it comes to problem solving at work.
I am the one most likely to get a raise and promotion.
I am calm in the most stressful work situations.
Come up with 5-10 positive affirmations in the present tense, you can say before walking into work, starting your day, or beginning other activities, to shape your perspective on the matter.
3. Make an auto recording of your affirmations, to be used at a later date. Make sure the quality is clear and you don’t have any background noise. It doesn’t have to be hit-song quality good, but make sure it’s clear enough for you to hear without issues. Record each affirmation at a normal speaking pace, speak clearly, and leave a short pause between each affirmation.
4. Type or write each affirmation on a piece of paper or in your phone. It’s essential to be able to always have your affirmations with you. This could be in any format that is feasible for you, on paper or in your phone.
5. Spend a few minutes each day listening to your affirmations. At a minimum, you can listen to them before you get out of bed, while driving to work, while you take a walk, or before you go to sleep. Put on your headphones and listen to your recording. Repeat it as many times as you need to, with the intent of fully receiving the message.
6. Take some time writing the affirmations that resonate with you the most. Use a pen and paper to write them by hand. For this exercise, typing doesn’t count. You may not find it enjoyable, but writing is the quickest and most reliable way to implant affirmations into your subconscious.
7. Read your affirmations. You’ve listened to and written them, now it’s time to read them. Take out your affirmations and read over them a few times a day. Allow your subconscious to recognize that you mean business and stay consistent.
8. Get some instant assistance. Your computer has a free screensaver that will flash some affirmations on the screen. You can program them to flash as short or long as you need to process them. Your subconscious mind will see them at a quick pace, but your conscious mind will need shorter periods of time take it all in. Imagine seeing your affirmations all day floating in the air, that’s the work of your subconscious
