The Humorous Journey to Personal Growth

Personal growth can be tough, but you can also make it enjoyable. You can reach your goals sooner if you lighten up the situations you face and not take them so serious.

Many research studies support the conclusion that laughter is a thunderous medicine. Just like any kind of medicine, it’s important to follow the directions to stay clear of undesirable side effects. See how to use humor masterfully, so it can enrich your life.

Valuing the Benefits of Humor:

1. Live healthier. Research reveals that laughter can decrease your heart rate and blood pressure, shed calories, and strengthen your immune system. It also releases endorphins, which may assist you with eliminating depression. There’s nothing like staying young by laughing and reducing frown lines with a bit of humor.

2. Heighten your favor. A quick glance at dating profiles will certainly prove that a sense of humor is an extremely appealing quality. Some business colleges add humor as part of the curriculum to create management capability. Applying a lighthearted approach to tense situations can resolve conflicts easier. If used correctly, it will soften the blow when delivering feedback.

3. Reduce stress. Humor eliminates fear and anger from heavy situations. Making light of a scary moment can take the emotion out of the equation, it’s like turning on the light when watching a scary movie. Have you ever experienced tension in the room and then someone makes a joke to lighten the mood? Even if the joke is bad, there’s a shift in the room and everyone is at ease again.

4. Increase your strength. When you can recognize the irony in situations, hardships can become easier to bear. The physical and mental health benefits received from humor can help you through challenging and ordinary times. You don’t have to be serious at every turn in life. Sure things come up, but if you take the good with the bad and see the silver lining in things, you can use humor to stay calm and focus on the solution.

Growing Your Sense of Humor:

1. Be kind. Ridiculing others and inappropriate jokes are likely to get you terminated, in a physical altercation, or lose friends. You never want to be the butt of someone else’s joke, so don’t put others in a situation that belittles them, just for a laugh or two. You want to generate the kind of humor that has a playful view of life and produces social bonds.

2. Smile more often. Smiling at people will give you way more opportunities to enjoy yourself than walking around with a grimmest look on your face. Your goal is to draw others in so you all can enjoy one another’s company. Start by looking pleasant, approachable, and friendly, so people know you are opened to start conversations with.

3. Be Social. Surround yourself with people who know how to have a good time. Sharing everyday life and past stories can be just as diverting as playing pranks and telling jokes. If you can make the story come to life with body movement and facial expressions, all the better. Remember, laughter is contagious.
4. Be goofy. You could be missing out on joyous experiences because you’re concerned about looking foolish. To be honest, you’ll probably gain more respect if you’re more authentic and let go of your need for approval of what other’s may think. Let your hair down and just enjoy the moment without fear of the outcome. Be a goofball.

5. Practice creative thinking. MRI scans show higher levels of brain activity in the temporal lobe where instinctive associations are developed. What can you discover from a comedy writer’s brain? Don’t be afraid to trust your instincts and try new things. Go to a comedy show and pick up some tips from those who specialize in making people laugh for a living.
6. Take risks. Being humorous might require sharing your feelings and thoughts. You can start in small social situations where you feel safe to open up, like with your friends, family, or in online chats. Make sure the risk you’re taking doesn’t come at the cost of someone else’s feelings. Try roasting yourself or someone who gave you permission to do so.

7. Fake it until you make it. If you’re having problems finding the things around you funny, think of something you did in the past. The smallest chuckle can develop into something people take interest in. When they ask, let them know by sharing your thoughts. You’ll be able to lift your spirts and entertain your company.
8. Play with kids and pets. Kids are a superb source of inspiration. Pay attention to their out of this world stories and play their games. Your pet may be willing to let you use some of their funny material for social media videos. Kids and pets alike are always getting into things that make you laugh. It’s entertaining to sit back and watch them maneuver through life.

9. Watch reels. Having an internet connection gives you access to a large selection of entertaining web content that will have you smiling in no time. Watch people record themselves and others with the intent of amusing you with challenges, dances, and skits. There’s always something worth watching and sharing to your page that creates a good laugh.
10. Use props. Laughter is more effective when you practice everyday. Buy things that make you laugh and put them where you can see them. It could something as simple as a toy, T-shirt saying, or a gag gift you got from a friend. That way you can laugh throughout the day when you glance that way and it’ll lighten up your mood.

11. Change your worldview. Almost anything can be funny if you change your view of the world and the way you look at yourself. Taking on a different perception of things happening in your life can cause you to create humor in different ways. There’s a balance between being serious and being funny and it all depends on emotional intelligence.

Laugh your way to greater success, health, and happiness. Using humor responsibly and kindly can help you heal through troubling times. It’s also a way to attract kindhearted people who like to be in the presence of good company. Allow yourself to be authentic and share your story through comic relief and tasteful humor.
